Hamfatter’s Net Worth 2022 – What Happened After Dragons’ Den

The music industry is a very competitive business and it takes creativity to get to the top—and we’re not only referring to the process of writing songs and performing them.

As in any business, success is often about the marketing approach and who you know. Hamfatter is one band that grasped this fact and went a unique route: going into the Dragons’ Den and building a net worth of over £100,000.

Hamfatter—Who are They?

Hamfatter is a UK band playing pop rock music. Although they often perform with other musicians and even classical instruments, the main members according to Wikipedia are:

  • Eoin Mahoney on vocals, piano and bass
  • James Ingham on vocals and guitar
  • Mark Ellis on drums

This band started out around 2003 and already released in album in 2004. They didn’t do too bad for themselves, with their music getting good reviews and fair sales figures.

Another album saw the light in 2006 and during this period they weren’t only known in the UK, but also elsewhere in Europe such as Austria.

But for the band this wasn’t enough.

Hamfatter on Dragons’ Den—The Story

Hamfatter’s Appearance on Dragons’ Den

In 2008 the band took an interesting step, looking for an investment in the band from the Dragons’ Den investors. They were hoping for £75 000 for 20% of profit.

This seemed more inviting than signing the usual record deal with an agency.

As stated on BBC, in the end they had to agree to 30% but they did get the money they asked for.

Thanks to the show’s publicity they saw impressive sales when they released a song ‘the Girl I loved’ which they showcased on the Dragons’ Den.

Did the Dragons’ Den Investment go Through?

Hamfatter’s deal was with Peter Jones and indeed they did have a long running partnership. However, things didn’t go exactly as planned:

  • Peter had to invest more money at some stage.

  • Peter felt Mahoney had a better chance at making it in the industry than the band itself. He funded projects for Eoin as a solo artist, under the name Owen Mahoney.

  • The band’s album sales never improved so much that they reached the success they were after; some of this was caused by distributors closing down when the UK hit economic challenges.

Hamfatter Today

While Hamfatter still exists today, it’s debatable whether Peter Jones’ original plan panned out as he intended.

For a long time the band didn’t make any new music but in 2019 there came a shift. First Hamfatter released music online and then an EP in July 2019. You can view some of this on the Hamfatter website.

What’s Their Turnover?

There’s no question that Hamfatter was smart about marketing their band, but in the long run they didn’t become as famous as they would have liked.

Also, Peter Jones probably invested much more into this band than what he ever made from his 30%. They currently have a net worth of around £100,000

Conclusion

There’s nothing wrong with chasing a dream and no one can ever say Hamfatter didn’t try anything and everything to reach the top.

Was the reason for their fall into obscurity a lack of talent or a country’s recession? It’s definitely not for the lack of trying.
